Visit of CNCP representatives to Kharkov, 20-21 December 2011
CNCP delegation visited the Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology in Ukraine. The members of the delegation visited laboratories
and examined equipment purchased with financial assistance from CNCP. They discussed outcomes and the prospects for the more than ten
projects which were being implemented at that point with the senior management of the Institute. CNCP activities were discussed in a meeting
with the KIPT General Director who also serves as the Academic Secretary of the Department of Nuclear Physics and Energy of the Ukrainian
Academy of Science.

CNCP delegation visited Kiev, where a number of innovation projects being supported by the Programme in the Institute of Nuclear Research
are developing in a promising manner. A good example is the project to develop and produce a unique type of microstrip detector. This has
already been favourably assessed by specialists in Great Britain and a contract has been concluded to supply detectors to the Diamond
synchrotron in Harwell. During the visit, the delegation was joined by the leader of a CNCP isotope project based in Tbilisi, in Georgia, who
had discussions with specialists from the linked CNCP supported project in Kiev.
CNCP delegation visited projects in the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Tashkent, 6-8 December 2011
CNCP delegation visited projects in the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Tashkent including projects based on scientific developments in
the production of isotopes, radiation technologies, and high technology consumer goods. Discussions were held with the Director of INP and
the President of the Academy of Science of Uzbekistan on questions relating to commercialisation and on CNCP activities.
The launch on 7 December of a new electron accelerator facility, which is currently the only large irradiation complex of its type in
Uzbekistan was a high profile event. The facility is oriented to providing commercial services. The formal opening ceremony involved
representatives of the Government and the media. The accelerator was installed, commissioned and launched through the combined efforts of INP
scientists and specialists with financial and technical support from CNCP. The CNCP delegation also visited the research institute "Physics
Sun", which includes a unique facility for concentrating energy from sunlight. Meetings were held with the Director of the Institute and the
current state of the CNCP project located there was reviewed.
Training workshops for technology commercialization offices, Kazakhstan, 1-29 November 2011
Implementing a contract with the National Innovation Fund of Kazakhstan, CNCP specialists prepared and carried out a programme of training
seminars on the commercialisation of scientific and technical innovations. They delivered training in a total of nine universities situated
in Almaty, Karaganda, Uralsk, Ust-Kamenogorsk, and Shymkent. The programme included thematic sessions and consultations on particular
projects. Two groups of CNCP experts discussed 48 projects with a total of 285 participants.

Visit of CNCP representatives to Tbilisi, 10-11 November 2011
CNCP delegation visited Tbilisi for meetings with the directors and senior staff of the Institute of Physics and SIPT. Detailed
discussions were held on the closure of CNCP projects in the two institutes. The members of the delegation heard about positive developments
affecting SIPT: in particular, after a long period of uncertainty, new premises had been found for the Institute. This in part reflected the
significant progress made in implementing joint science commercialisation projects. The leaders of the Institute acknowledged the important
contribution made by CNCP to the Institute's recovery.

Visit of CNCP representatives to Erevan, 27-29 October 2011
CNCP delegation worked in Yerevan visiting projects and carrying out discussions with the Director of the partner Institutes. Armatom had
concluded its CNCP supported commercialisation project, which involved developing a training system for nuclear power plant maintenance
personnel. The project is of strategic importance for Armatom as it strengthens its position in its core area where it has specialised since
the Soviet period. The A.Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory (Yerevan Institute of Physics) is the largest scientific centre in Armenia.
Here too, the CNCP supported projects are focused on commercialising innovations in core areas of the Institute's activities, such as isotope
and laser technologies and solar energy. Restructuring and commercialisation were discussed in a meeting with the President of the State
Committee for Science.
Training course for energy audit specialists from Kurchatov, Almaty and Snezhinsk, (Kurchatov, Kazakhstan), 17-28 October 2011
British and Russian specialists delivered a two week training course in the town of Kurchatov in Kazakhstan for energy audit specialists
from Kurchatov, Almaty and Snezhinsk. Those taking part represented CNCP projects in this field. The course enabled them to enhance their
professional skills and knowledge, thus improving their competitiveness in the market for energy auditing and energy saving services.
Seminar "Development Centres and
Commercialisation Units: Results and Prospects", Yalta, Ukraine, 17-18 October 2011
On 17-18 October in Yalta the CNCP Programme in conjunction with the Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology NNC organized a seminar
for employees of Commercialisation Units created with support of CNCP. The seminar was attended by representatives of Russia, Ukraine,
Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Poland and UK. It included four sessions: "Commercialisation Units in CIS research institutes",
"Municipal establishments for business development and support", "Cooperation between international funds and programmes on R&D support and
assistance to commercialisation of research developments", "Cooperation with commercial organisations to develop R&D and commercialize
R&D results".

VII CNCP-NIS Annual Conference "The CNCP
Programme and Commercialisation: Evaluation of Achievements and Future Prospects", Astana, Kazakhstan, October 2011
On 4-6 October in Astana there was held the VII CNCP-NIS Annual Conference attended by specialists of the nuclear industry of UK, Kazakhstan,
Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. The conference's main goals were to discuss the results achieved last year, to talk about
on-going projects and to exchange opinions. The Directors of Institutes from NIS made reports at the special session: "The CNCP Impact on the Commercialisation Processes in the Partner
Organisations: Long-Term Effects and Future Prospects for Development". On the third day of the Conference in conjunction with the National
Innovation Fund of the Republic of Kazakhstan there was held a joint session “System of Commercialisation of Technologies in Kazakhstan and
CNCP experience: achievements and new horizons”. During the session there were given presentations by the representatives of NIF and other
organisations involved in commercialization of technologies in Kazakhstan, as well as CNCP Expert in Economic Development Charles Monck.
Also, the session was attended by the heads of commercialisation offices created in nine universities of Kazakhstan in the framework of the
Technologies Commercialisation Programme of NIF.

Supporting CNCP projects involved in the production of isotopes, a working visit was organised for representatives of the Almaty and
Tashkent Institutes of Nuclear Physics, and the Kiev Institute of Nuclear Research to the Isotopes Institute in Budapest, Hungary. One of the
main aims of the visit was to enable the participants to become familiar with the organisation of production on the basis of GLP (Good
Laboratory Practice) standards, which regulate laboratory production and organisation.
Study tour "Development of local economies faced with substantial restructuring", 12-17 September 2011
The study tour was focused on how one particular area of the UK, West Cumbria, has engaged in a long term regeneration programme to
diversify the local economic and reduce its dependence on Sellafield, the UK's major nuclear reprocessing site where over 10,000 are employed.

Visit organised for representative of the British Company Argyll Ruane to INP Almaty to assess opportunities for collaboration in training
and certifying specialists in the field of non-destructive testing on the basis of international standards. The visit led to the signing of
an agreement to work together. A plan was agreed whereby new services would be launched in Kazakhstan starting in March 2012.
Visit of CNCP representatives to Zheleznogorsk, 29-30 August 2011
CNCP representatives worked in Zheleznogorsk visiting joint projects, most of which are approaching completion. In a meeting with the
delegation, the City leaders stressed the major role that the Programme had played in the development of projects which were of importance to
the City and the relevance of CNCP support for business processes in general. Recognition was also paid to the active role of the
Zheleznogorsk International Development Centre.
Visit of CNCP Delegation to Ozersk and Snezhinsk, 16-19 August 2011
CNCP representatives visited partnership projects in Snezhinsk and Ozersk. Many of these projects are approaching completion and
evaluation of outcomes was the subject of discussions both on site, and during meetings with the city leaders. The assessment of outcomes
indicated that, despite the economic crisis, CNCP projects appeared to have remained viable and sustainable through a period of stagnation
and contraction of business activities.

The 9th CNCP-Russia Conference, Svetlogorsk, July 2011
The annual CNCP-Russia Conference on the Programme's 2010/2011 financial year was held in Svetlogorsk (Kaliningrad Region) from 12-14 July.
The Conference, as usual, brought together representatives of six Rosatom closed cities, British and
Russian specialists, CNCP leaders from Russia and Great Britain.

Conference "Innovations as a Product and Instrument of the Business", Gomel, Belarus, June 2011
As part of its continuing support for the process of commercialisation in its partner institutes, CNCP sponsored a conference in Gomel on
21 and 22 June on Innovation and business. The Conference was entitled "Innovation as a Tool for Business Development: Proposals and Methods
for Commercialisation" and was organised in conjunction with the Gomel-based Centre for Scientific, Technical and Business Information (CSTBI).

Seminar held by the Seversk Business Development Agency during the Tomsk Innovation Forum with support from CNCP and the Tomsk Regional
Administration on collaboration between large nuclear enterprises and the local business community. CNCP helped to bring together specialists
from Seversk and representatives of the business cluster in West Cumbria and the nuclear complex in Sellafield. Plans for the development of
manufacturing in Seversk and possibilities for cooperation were discussed.
Study tour to Great Britain, 17-18 May 2011
Study tour organised to Great Britain to help those involved to become familiar with British experience in radiation safety. Taking part
were specialists from the Institute of Nuclear Physics (Almaty) and the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology (Kurchatov) in Kazakhstan,
and the Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology in Ukraine. They explored the marketing of services in the field of radiation protection
and dosimetry in Great Britain and in the international market.
Specialists from Uzbekistan visited CNCP partner institutes in Tbilisi and Yerevan, 9-13 May 2011
Group of specialists from Uzbekistan with projects involving radio-chemistry and radiation technologies visited CNCP partner institutes in
Tbilisi and Yerevan. The visits resulted in the acquisition of important practical experience in the
commercialisation of high technologies in current economic conditions and in a strengthening of partnership relations between the institutes
concerned. A return visit will organise in June.
Visit of CNCP Programme representatives to Yerevan, 28-29 April 2011
CNCP delegation visited Yerevan. The delegation found that the situation with regard to CNCP projects in Armenia had improved. Most of the
work in Armatom to create a modern training simulator for nuclear power plant maintenance staff had been completed.

CNCP specialists visited projects being carried out with partners in Tbilisi. Meetings were held with the participation of specialists
from Kharkov and Kiev to discuss planned joint activities involving the extraction of technetium (to be used in medical procedures
in Georgia) from molybdenum irradiated in the Institute of Nuclear Research in Kiev.

On 19-20 April a monitoring visit for the CNCP delegation to the Joint Institute for Power and
Nuclear Research (JIPNR) – Sosny, Minsk (Belarus) was organized. The CNCP experts visited sites where CNCP projects are being implemented.

«Examples of Technology Commercialisation from Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol and London» is the
theme of the annual study visit to Great Britain for representatives of CNCP partner organisations
from Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. Participants also include the
President of the Academy of Science of the Republic of Uzbekistan, together with representatives
of the National Innovation Fund of Kazakhstan and of the Academy of Science of Ukraine.

From 15 to 16 February in Sarov there was held a second annual conference
"ZATO - Area of State Interests". Heads of Closed Cities, representatives of the State Corporation
ROSATOM and managers of innovation companies assembled in Obyedineniye BINAR to discuss the most
relevant issues. 15 February, in BINAR there was held a
meeting of the working group on organization of an innovation cluster in
Sarov. On 16 February BINAR became a work
platform for discussion of innovation business development in Closed Cities.

Delegation visits CNCP projects in Almaty, Tashkent and Kurchatov, 7-17 February 2011
Delegation visits CNCP projects in Almaty, Tashkent and Kurchatov. One of the main focuses of the
visit is to make sure that all of the projects supported by the Programme are successfully completed
by early 2012. Projects reviewed include the creation of an electron accelerator facility in the
Institute of Nuclear Physics in Tashkent, which is at an advanced stage. The facility will be used
to carry out radiation treatment for commercial customers.
