Visit of CNCP representatives to Minsk, Feburary 2010

On 9-10 Feburary CNCP delegation visited Joint Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research (JIENR) - Sosny in Minsk, Belarus.

During their visit the CNCP representatives discussed the preparation of contracts with ISTC required for the implementation of CNCP projects such as "System for the determination of nitrosamines", "Establishment of a centre for water treatment and analyses" and "Increase in the safety of sealed sources with Cesium -137 by their additional encapsulation". Parameters of new projects proposed by the Institute were also discussed. These projects were "Radiation treatment of materials and articles" and "Production of agents for stabilizing treatment of water and scale removal". Full proposals on these projects were submitted for the approval of Programme Steering Group on 19 February.

At the meeting with the leadership of JIENR and the Head of Science Authority at the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Zhuravlev the following topics were discussed:

• opportunities for continuing joint activity of CNCP Programme and JIENR in conditions of finishing grant funding;
• prospects for possible cooperation of JIENR and British Welding Institute (TWI) in the training of certified specialist in welding and non-destructive control;
• possibility to hold CNCP-NIS annual conference in Belarus;
• participation of JIENR staff in educational events in the framework of the CNCP Programme.
