Visit of CNCP representatives to Kharkov, Ukraine, 8-10 December 2009
Working meeting on «Commercialisation Units» held with support from CNCP in the premises of KIPT (Kharkov, Ukraine), bringing
together commercialization specialists from Almaty, Kurchatov, Kharkov, Tashkent, Tbilisi, Yerevan, and British specialists.
In the course of the visit to Kharkov, CNCP specialists visit sites used for
implementation of projects funded by CNCP and have a tour to the old site. On
9 December Seminar on "Intellectual Property Protection" is held. On 10
December a meeting of representatives of Commercialisation Units is organized.

Visit of CNCP Programme representatives to Seversk, 17-18 November 2009
During a regular visit to Seversk, CNCP representatives visited a number of organisations which are carrying out CNCP
supported projects. They met the leaders of the Municipal Administration, took part in a meeting of the Supervisory Board of the
Business Development Agency and also participated in a meeting on the subject of «Inward Investment» organised by the Closed
City Administration. An audit of expenditure on projects in the city was carried out prior to the visit.

Study Tour to Great Britain, 1-8 November 2009
Study Tour to Great Britain organized for representatives of the City Administrations of Russian Closed Nuclear Cities,
Closed City main enterprises and the central administration of Rosatom. The basic aim of the tour was familiarisation with
British experience in the diversification of nuclear sites, the organisation of the process of the commercialization of
technology and the system for promoting local economic development.
At the close of the visit, the creation of business incubators and programmes for supporting start up companies.
Information was presented on targeted programmes of support for business and on opportunities for attracting investment.

Results of CNCP Steering Group Meeting, 30th October 2009
At the meeting on 30th October 2009 the CNCP Steering Group approved 19 projects. The Committee approved outline proposals for the 28 projects.

Seminar on Commercialisation of Sensor and Detector Technologies, Sevastopol,
Ukraine, October 7-8, 2009
Experience exchange in the commercialisation of sensor and detector technologies among representatives of nuclear
enterprises from Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, acquainting the participants with the
modern status of the international market of commercial sensors and detectors production, its key players and potential
partners.

Fifth Annual CNCP-NIS Conference:
Building Commercial Partnerships, Batumi, Georgia, September 15-17, 2009
The Annual Conference where CNCP reviews its activities over the past year in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan,
Ukraine and Uzbekistan was held in 2009 in Batumi, Georgia, between 15 and 17 October. A special feature of the Conference was
its thematic focus - on support for commercial partnerships. This is a promising direction of the work of the Programme and one
of its basic instruments for promoting the long term sustainability and self-sufficiency of CNCP supported commercial projects.

Visit of CNCP Delegation to Kurchatov, August 2009
From 18 to 20 August the CNCP delegation holds working meetings with representatives of the National Nuclear Centre
Institutes and the Park of Nuclear Technologies in Kurchatov, Kazakhstan.

Visit of CNCP Programme representatives to Zheleznogorsk, 30–31 July 2009
CNCP specialists visit beneficiary companies in Zheleznogorsk and evaluate projects successfully completed by Kardinal
and Makhaon. The delegation visit follows a full financial audit of the projects concerned by the CNCP audit team.

The 7th CNCP-Russia Conference, Velikiy Novgorod, 14–16 July 2009
Annual CNCP Russia Conference meeting in Velikiy Novgorod analyses the results of completed projects, and discusses plans
for the period 2010-2012. Representatives of the Closed Cities raise issues relating to the continuation of the work of the
Programme after 2012.

Visit of CNCP specialists to Sarov, 2–3 July 2009
In the course of a visit to Sarov, CNCP representatives review progress achieved by projects and the jobs created. An audit
of projects was carried out by the CNCP audit team prior to the visit.

Visit of CNCP Programme representatives to Ozersk, June 2009
On June 24-26 a CNCP team visited Ozersk. The CNCP experts visited all the projects being implemented as well as the sites planned
for implementation of four projects, for which the Outline Proposals were approved by the
Steering Group on June 19.
Also, during the visit there were discussed concepts of six new projects, which have commercial potential.

CNCP specialists visit the Tashkent Institute of Nuclear Physics and the Samarkand State University's Nuclear Physics
Laboratory and evaluate the results of two completed projects, “Water Purification” and “Radiation Enhancement of Precious
Stones”. An audit of projects was carried out prior to the visit.

The final examination of course work prepared for the MBA "Strategy" was held in the Moscow offices of IIM LINK. This marked
the conclusion of four years of study for a number of members of the staff of the Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology.
The education involved was provided on the initiative of CNCP and with its financial and organizational support.

of radiation technologies, Lvov, Ukraine, 13-14 May 2009
Seminar on the commercial applications of radiation technologies carried out by CNCP in Lvov, Ukraine, in conjunction with the
Kharkhov Institute of Physics and Technology. The event was the latest in a series of seminars organized with a view to helping nuclear
institutes to realize their commercial potential and to create new jobs.

Official Visit of CNCP Delegation to Yerevan and Tbilisi, 4-7 May 2009
A visit by CNCP specialists to Yerevan and Tbilisi focused particularly on the launch of projects recently been approved for
funding within the Programme. The outcome of market research relating to innovation-based proposals was discussed. A number of
new project concepts were also presented for consideration.

Visit of CNCP Delegation to Snezhinsk, 15-17 April 2009
On the occasion of a regular CNCP visit to Snezhinsk, evaluations were carried out of four recently completed projects:
Energy Audit Services, Phase II; Production of Metal Cutting Equipment; Production of Swivel Joints for Pipelines; and British
Open University Business Education provided through International Institute of Management (IIM) LINK.

Ozersk Business Development Agency (BDA) Supervisory Board met in Dalnyaya Dacha, 14-15 April 2009
Ozersk Business Development Agency (BDA) Supervisory Board met in Dalnyaya Dacha (near Kyshtym in the Chelyabinsk Region).
The Àgency was organized with the participation of CNCP (see article in previous Newsletter) and has begun active work. The
question of promoting the sustainability of the Agency after the close of Programme activities in 2012 was discussed.
Entrepreneurs from Ozersk presented several new project concepts for consideration. CNCP specialists held a seminar for staff
of the BDA on issues relating to marketing. An evaluation was carried out of a project: "Production of radiation modified
polymeric products", which had recently been completed.

Visit of CNCP programme representatives to the Alatau Institute of Nuclear Physics, 7-9 April 2009
On the occasion of a visit by CNCP representatives to the Alatau Institute of Nuclear Physics, in Kazakhstan, discussions
were held on the possibility of establishing a collaboration between INP and The Welding Institute (TWI), which is based in
Cambridge. A final evaluation was carried out of a successfully completed project: Production of Industrial Sealed Radioactive
Sources. Also evaluated in INP was a second project: Organisation of a Facility for Neutron Activation Analysis, which is
approaching completion.

Official Visit of CNCP Delegation to Sevastopol, 17-18 March 2009
Official visit by representatives of the CNCP Programme to Sevastopol (Ukraine). On this occasion, the CNCP experts and
representatives of the Sevastopol national university of nuclear energy and industry discussed the progress being made with
joint projects on the production of photoelectric semiconductors and the organisation of a neutron analysis service.
The delegation visited the university's research reactor and specialised laboratories where the CNCP projects are being
carried out.

Reorganisation of the Ministry of Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR)
As a result of a British Government reorganisation involving the Ministry of Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform
(BERR), which was previously responsible for the CNCP Programme, as from 5 March responsibility for the Programme was
officially transferred to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, DECC. Despite these changes, the British side continues
work within the framework of CNCP as before and will continue to carry out in full all the obligations which it has taken on. |
6th Business English Course in the De Montfort University, February-March 2008
From the 9 February to 7 March an annual Business English Course traditionally took place in the De Montfort University, Leicester,
UK. The University receives the representatives from Russia and former Soviet Union Republics working on the CNCP Programme. The main topics of the course
include negotiation, entrepreneurship, innovation activities, corporate culture, formal business English, writing reports and
proposals, preparation of presentations, marketing and brand managements, issues related to intellectual property.

Study Tour to Great Britain, 22-28 February 2009
Senior representatives of CNCP partner institutes in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan
visited Great Britain as part of a study tour organized by the Programme. The basic aim of the visit was to promote exchange
of experience in the sphere of the commercialization of technology-based innovations and the creation of innovation
infrastructure.

Results of CNCP Steering Group Meeting, February 2009
At the meeting on 19th February 2009 the CNCP Steering Group approved 10 projects. The Committee approved outline proposals
for the 12 projects. An important piece of news was announced to the effect that contracts for new CNCP grant projects could
continue to be signed up to 31 March 2010. Thereafter, from April 2010 to the end of May 2012, effort would be focused on
financing and implementing projects which had already been approved.

Visit of CNCP Delegation to Kiev and Kharkov, Ukraine, January 2009
CNCP specialists visited the Institute of Nuclear Physics (Kiev) on 28 January and then on 29-30 January the Kharkov Institute of
Physics and Technology. The CNCP experts oversaw the implementation of ongoing projects. During the visit the participants
discussed market research and business planning of new proposals.

Visit of CNCP programme representatives to Georgia, January 2009
12-14 January CNCP specialists visited the Institute of Physics named after E. Andronikashvili and Sukhumy Institute of Physics and
Technology named after I. Vekua. During the visit the CNCP experts visited the sites planned for implementation of CNCP projects. New
proposal of both institutes were discussed.
