Summary
While CNCP has already cooperated with partners from Zheleznogorsk in a
number of activities, including study tours and training initiatives, no
grant aid projects were developed during fiscal year 2003/2004. A team from
CNCP, including Vladimir Sterekhov (representative from the Federal Agency
for Atomic Energy (FAAE)) visited Krasnoyarsk from April 14-16, 2004 for
meetings with representatives from the nuclear facility Mining Chemical
Kombinat (MCC), the municipality and state and private sector enterprises
with the aim of identifying potential grant aid projects and better understanding
local capabilities and needs.
On the first day, CNCP team members heard reports on the situation in
the Closed Nuclear City and on measures already underway to promote economic
conversion and restructuring. On April 15-16, representatives of teams
from Zheleznogorsk and Krasnoyarsk region's businesses and public sector
institutions made presentations on some 20 possible grant aid projects
including: Production of ventilated wall facades; modular heat transfer
units; antenna feeder systems; polythene pipe production and radiation
strengthening; insulating materials production.
