Laboratory for the manufacture of lenses
Practical Outcomes of Project Realization

Title

Establish a laboratory for the manufacture of sophisticated prescription lenses.
Objectives

- UralOptic Ltd aims to set up an advanced laboratory in Snezhinsk for the manufacture of sophisticated prescription lenses. It will provide a central manufacturing facility for opticians, optical clinics and companies operating in the Urals.

- The laboratory will be equipped to operate in a competitive environment, producing up to 40,000 high-quality spectacle lenses during the first year and up to 80,000 items at full production capacity.

- 19 high-skilled professionals will be employed by UralOptic, 10 of whom will be recruited from VNIITF.
Summary

Uraloptic company was registered in 1993 and has a well established business in procuring and distributing high quality prescription lenses. The company currently acts as an intermediary for the provision of lenses for spectacles. Over recent years, as the industry has become more sophisticated, the lenses have become more sophisticated, dealing for example with astigmatism and providing bifocals. In such cases, the lenses are no longer simple convex lenses, but have become much more complex in shape.

The proportion of complex lenses is increasing. Last year, over 12% of the lenses supplied by Uraloptic were complex lenses. The idea of the project was to manufacture lenses in house.

Final audit showed that the Beneficiary had fulfilled all of its obligations in full. Job creation was over fulfilled (19 jobs /14 for former employees of VNIITF created vs 19/10 planned).

The project has been completed successfully.
