Setting Up Production of Pyrolized Hard-Fuel Boilers
Title
Creation of manufacturing of a new competitive produce - efficient hard-fuel automated pyrolized boilers with the capacity of 15 - 100 kWt.
Objectives
- The company will reach £133,000 of sales volume during the first year of manufacturing, by the 3-rd year it will grow
up to £450,000.
- To create 52 new jobs in Snezhinsk, including 30 for former employees of VNIITF.
Background
Pyrolized boilers use a well-established technology to produce gas from wood fuel ensuring that all
fuel is consumed at high efficiencies. This type of boiler comprises two chambers - one for loading
and the other for burning gas generated from wood. The boiler is made of fire-box steel and the
burning chamber and furnace doors are heat-insulated with fire clay. The boiler is gasproof to
eliminate emissions into the boiler room. These boilers are produced in considerable numbers in
Germany and the Czech Republic and are sold at premium prices. They have advantages over
conventional wood burning boilers because they operate at an overall efficiency of 84%
(compared with 80% for wood burning boilers); there is very little ash and no tar residue because of
the type of firing and the boiler needs to be loaded twice every 24 hours rather than every three
hours. DOM Corporation is located in Snezhinsk and has been making fossil fuel boilers since 1999.
The company believes it can produce pyrolized boilers for the domestic market in the range 18 kwt to
100 kwt (with sufficient capacity to heat homes and small business premises) and wants funding to
help it realize its ambitions to produce this type of boiler in Russia. There is no Russian producer
at the moment and all boilers of this type are imported.
Plan
This project will develop a renewable energy, wood-burning, boiler which will go on sale at a lower
price than imported boilers in Russia, primarily in the Urals region. It may also be possible to
export the boilers. The boilers will run on firewood, wood chips and pressed sawdust briquettes.
The area around Snezhinsk is heavily forested and many industries have been established to take
advantage of this natural resource. The plan indicates that production equipment must be purchased
and premises prepared in advance of delivery of the equipment. Facilities must be available so that
boiler components can be assembled and then staff will be recruited and trained. Test pieces and
assemblies will be manufactured for certification purposes.
Leadership
The company has considerable experience of producing and selling boilers and it has already developed a design for a pyrolized boiler which is of a high standard and an associated design manual.
Jobs
Final audit proved that all the obligations have been overfulfilled by the Beneficiary. 53 new jobs (35 for former employees of VNIIEF) had
been created vs planned 52 new jobs (30 for former employees of VNIIEF).
Cost
Total cost of the project is £461,600.
The DECC's contribution is £200,000 (as a capital grant to cover the
purchase of production equipment and a truck-tractor).
