Ozersk
Radiation-modified polymer items
Practical Outcomes of Project Realization

The Project is alive and kicking and continuing to develop (Interview with Dmitry Alyavdin, General Director of the “Urals Factory for Polymer Technologies, Mayak”)

Title

Establishment of Radiologically Treated Polymeric Product Manufacture.
Objectives

- To set up the manufacture of radiation-modified polymer items.

- To reach production output of 20 tons in a year after the project implementation.

- To create 28 new jobs in the course of project implementation, including 17 jobs (60%) designated for the employees released from Federal State Unitary Enterprise Kombinat "MAYAK".
Summary

This project aimed to assist a private company, Urals Plant of Polymer Technologies MAYAK (UPPT MAYAK), Ozersk, to establish new facilities for the manufacture of radiologically treated heat-shrinkable polymeric products by buying new equipment and transferring staff and expertise from Chemical Kombinat Mayak into a new facility within Ozersk but outside the Kombinat site. Mayak facilities would still be used for irradiation of the polymers.

The proposed work programme comprises four main tasks: purchase of the equipment for the facility; establish the new facility in rented accommodation; recruit and train staff on the new equipment; start production of higher quality and in larger volume.

Final audit proved that the beneficiary had fulfilled its obligations in full and had over fulfilled its obligations as concerns job creation. 39 jobs / including 18 for ex-workers of Mayak had been created versus 28 /17 planned).

The project has been completed successfully.
