Official Visit of CNCP representatives to Uzbekistan,
September 2006

The CNCP delegation headed by Trevor Hayward, DTI Programme Director, made an official visit to Uzbekistan from 5 to 8 September.
During the visit the delegation visited the following three projects being carried out by the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan:

• Production of sealed Co-57 radioactive sources for XRF-spectrometers;
• Establishment of serial production and marketing of water purification devices in Uzbekistan;
• Gemstone colouration through neutron and gamma irradiations for jewellery production.

Equipment is currently being manufactured and premises prepared for future production.

The British delegation had a meeting with Heads of the Institute of Nuclear Physics led by Umar Salikhbaev, Director, to discuss current activities. Seven new projects were presented for the British party to consider.
