Plan
A number of nuclear institutes have experienced the problem that project leaders who are mentored under CNCP concentrate on building up
their own commercialisation projects and are not available to support the development of future proposals and projects. In order to
strengthen commercialisation resources and to build in an element of teaching the teachers, discussions were held in mid-2006 with the
senior management of KIPT and other centres with a view to establishing in-house commercialisation units - in the first instance in KIPT.
If considered promising, the concept would then be extended to other nuclear institutes and facilities where CNCP is active. The SG at
its November 2006 meeting agreed to support an outline proposal covering marketing and business plan development for a commercialisation
unit in KIPT. The management of the Institute agreed to provide premises, and nominated seven staff members (including two new
recruits) to form the core of the unit. During a visit to KIPT, by CNCP specialists in late November and early December 2006,
the development of the proposal was discussed and training provided in commercialisation concepts. A Project Full Proposal was
approved by the SG in February. Representatives of the Commercialisation Unit took part in a joint CNCP/ISTC seminar on
commercialisation outside Moscow in March. If successful, the project may become a model for creation of similar structures in
other CIS institutes. An STCU contract for implementation of the project is under development. CNCP team discussed details of
project implementation with KIPT management during a visit to the institute in May 2007.
