Interview with Adil Tuleushev, Director of the INP

Commercialisation unit in the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The history of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Republic of Kazakhstan bridges two centuries. Both in the period of its establishment and today, its basic aim has been to carry out investigations in fundamental and applied nuclear physics and to develop nuclear and radiation technologies. However, for a long time, this objective was separated from the sphere of production. While state funding continued, little thought was given to the commercialisation of scientific results. Nevertheless, a solid bank of scientific ideas and technological developments accumulated, which had definite commercial potential in the new economic circumstances.

Thanks to support from CNCP, a project was developed in 2008 to create a commercialization group in INP. Its task consists in identifying prospects, which are promising from the commercial point of view, and supporting their development with marketing, business-planning, protection of intellectual property and partner search. As well as directly funding projects, CNCP provides mentoring and consultancy support and invites project participants to take part in organized activities and seminars.
